100K Challenge: discover our most popular answers

Just as last year, we launched our engaging promotion 100K Challenge to coincide with the start of the 2016-2017 Jupiler Pro League season. Over the month of August, we invited our players to send in their answers to six questions about the JPL. Now that the subscriptions have ended, we share the most popular answers. Check an overview below for some interesting insights!

Club Brugge seems to have left a great impression on many participants. The reigning champion is tipped to take two titles back to back by almost 42% of the participants. Hot on their tail, though, is RSC Anderlecht, at close to 39%. AA Gent, Standard Liège, and KRC Genk remain far outsiders, all below 7%.

If it’ll be Club Brugge that wins the JPL title again, they’ll have scored 60 goals by the end of the season, averaging 2 per game. At least, that’s the average of all answers we’ve received. 60 seems a ball park figure, though, considering last year’s goal total for the three top scoring teams: 64 (Club Brugge), 56 (KAA Gent), and 55 (KV Oostende). Rather interestingly, people who think Standard Liège will become champion only see the top scoring team scoring 41 goals.

KAS Eupen may have promoted to the highest division, but most players don’t give them much of a chance of lasting more than a season there. Over a third of the answers we’ve received point to a relegation of the newcomer. Westerlo and Mouscron-Péruwelz are in the danger zone as well, making another third at about 16% of the answers each.

Last JPL season, “Zebra” Jérémy Perbet netted 17 goals for Sporting Charleroi, making him the top scoring player. He could still in the running for that spot this season, albeit for KAA Gent now, but of course we’ve only just begun! Whoever makes the most goals in the end, our players think he’ll total 18, which seems a solid guess.

With 50, players were gentle when asked how many goals the last placed team would concede. Oud-Heverlee Leuven, last year’s relegating team, took 53 in the 2015-2016 season, so this figure could be a bit low. It may also seem somewhat surprising that both Westerlo and Waasland-Beveren took more goals than relegator OHL, at 59 and 57 respectively!

On October 23, Club Brugge welcomes fierce rivals RSC Anderlecht for their first clash of the season. We asked our player who’d win, and more than half of the answers (52,13%) point to a victory for the reigning champion. Just over a quarter of the answers gave the win to Anderlecht, with the remaining answers, quite logically, guessing a draw.

The most popular score outcome that was guessed, was 2-1 at almost 27%. About half as many players predict it the other way around, or 1-2. A tie at 1-1, at just over 12%, seems slightly less likely, according to the averages drawn from our players’ responses. It’s worth noting here that this classic Club Brugge – RSCA Anderlecht opposition was a highly irregular affair last year, at 1-4 in the regular season, and 4-0 in the play-offs.

So that’s how our players responded on average! Do you recognize your own answers in this overview? Are you way off in regard to the average in some questions? We’ll only know the answers to our questions at the end of the season next year… Until then, anything can happen!
