European basketball championship: Russia versus Belgium

Sure, there are plenty of interesting football betting opportunities out there these days, but if you look a little further, you’ll see that there are many other important sports events going on around the world. In basketball, for example, the women’s national teams of Europe are fighting in courts in Latvia and Serbia for basketball domination on the European continent. Tonight at 5.45 p.m., the Belgian ladies find a tough opponent in their way to glory… Let’s show our national basketball team some support against Russia!

The tournament

The women’s European basketball championship is held every 2 years. The 2019 edition starts tomorrow June 27 with the first games (including the one between Russia and Belgium), and will last until July 7, when the final will be played. 16 nations are fighting for the title in games that are organised by host nations Latvia and Serbia. That means that there is trans-European travel from the Baltics to the Balkans involved, which should always be considered when you place your bets! This competition has historically been a highly unpredictable one: no nation ever won back-to-back titles since 1991, and in the last 12 editions, 8 different nations won the coveted silverware. It’s all up in the air in this exciting celebration of basketball!

Russia – Belgium

With Russia, Belgium encounters a three-time champion (24 times even, if we consider the Soviet Union’s reign on the game before the 1990’s) with an imposing presence on the championship’s history. Belgium’s presence, meanwhile, is highly inconsistent, with 11 random appearances in 36 editions. On the other hand, it’s important to note that Belgium’s best result, a bronze medal, was achieved in the previous edition of 2017, where Russia was beaten 58-62 in the quarterfinal qualifiers against a Greece side that later on lost the fight for a third place to Belgium. When Russia and Belgium last met, in the group phase of the 2017 European championship, a nerve-wracking game ended 75-76 in favour of Belgium. Ready to show your support?
