Football games of the weekend

17.10.2019

The European national competitions pick up again where they left off for the Euro 2020 qualifiers. In Germany, the Borussia derby is on between Dortmund and Mönchengladbach on Saturday. Then on Sunday, Manchester United and Liverpool duke it out in the English Premier League, while two Golden Palace-sponsored sides meet in the Belgian Pro League: KV Mechelen hosts RAFC. On which team would you put your money here?

Borussia Dortmund – Borussia Mönchengladbach (Saturday, 6.30 p.m.)

The Bundesliga sees one of its most known rivalries on Saturday with the battle of the Borussias. This derby pits a bright hopeful in the form of Mönchengladbach against giant Dortmund. At a quick glance, it seems that Dortmund has this in the bag, with base odds @1.52 for a Dortmund home win. It would be unwise to discount Mönchengladbach (@5.60), as it is currently topping the Bundesliga rankings. Belgians at Dortmund Axel Witsel and Thorgan Hazard could be in for a tough game here!

Statistics:

  • Head to head (27 games): 17 victories for Borussia Dortmund, 6 victories for Borussia Mönchengladbach, 4 draws
  • Average goals per match: 2.9
  • Borussia Dortmund’s recent results: loss-win-draw-draw-draw
  • Borussia Mönchengladbach’s recent results: loss-win-win-win-win

A draw @4.90 seems like it could be good value here!

Manchester United – Liverpool (Sunday 5.30 p.m.)

Manchester United is still one of the most talked-about football teams in the world, although the results seem to be lagging, recently. The Mancunian outfit is stranded at an abysmal 12th place in the Premier League standing, with only 9 points out of 8 games. Liverpool, on the other hand, is dominating English football as Manchester United once was. The Reds are towering over the competition, with 24 points out of 8 games so far. If any team is to take a stand against them, this should be the time!

Statistics:

  • Head to head (36 games): 18 victories for Manchester United, 11 victories for Liverpool, 7 draws
  • Average goals per match: 2.3
  • Manchester United’s recent results: draw-win-loss-draw-loss
  • Liverpool’s recent results: win-win-win-win-win

How about ‘Halftime/Fulltime: Draw/Liverpool’ for this clash of the titans?

KV Mechelen – RAFC (Sunday, 2.30 p.m.)

With KV Mechelen and RAFC up against each other, two Golden Palace-sponsored teams duke it out, and we’re proud to say that this year, this fixture is turning out to be a real thriller! Mechelen sits in a comfortable fifth place, above even title defender KRC Genk. It has its mind set on a higher place, though, and so does its Antwerpian rival from its fourth place. Both are steadily cruising through the Belgian Pro League with 17 points, although RAFC managed to get there with one less match played...

Statistics :

  • Head to head (8 games): 2 victories for KV Mechelen, 4 victories for RAFC, 2 draws
  • Average goals per match: 1.4
  • KV Mechelens’s recent results: draw-loss-win-loss-win
  • Mönchengladbach’s recent results: loss-win-win-draw-draw

Plenty of excitement on both sides of the pitch? Try ‘Halftime/Fulltime: Draw/Draw’ @5.80!
